Dundee Foodbank the winners of the Dundee Derby!

8th August 2017

Dundee Foodbank would like to extend its sincere gratitude to all at Dundee and Dundee United Football Clubs and their amazing supporters in the organisation and the promotion of our collection day at the Dundee Derby on Sunday 30th July 2017. We were overwhelmed by the generosity of both sets of supporters as we took in 898.5kg of food and £1383.24.

The amount of food and money that we’ve taken from this collection will help us provide approximately 90 families or 170 individuals with a three-day emergency, nutritionally-balanced food parcel. This will make a huge difference as we are continually stretched to keep up with an unfortunately high demand. Dundee remains the busiest Trussell Trust Foodbank in Scotland and one of the busiest in the UK.

Whilst we wish that we could live in a society that did not require Foodbanks, the current reality for thousands of people and families across Dundee necessitates our presence. And we could not function without the invaluable support that we receive from individuals, schools, churches, and businesses across the city. This is why we are so grateful to the support that the city’s football clubs and its fans have provided to us to help us ensure that no-one in this city goes hungry.

We also want to thank the BT Sport production team for a very sizable donation in addition to the TV coverage they provided us.

Last but certainly not least, a huge thank you to our wonderful volunteers. We had volunteers ranging from 5 to 77 years young. Dundee Foodbank could simply not function without these dedicated volunteers… your work is very much valued!

Just a few of our hardworking volunteers!
